Community Lead Action for Climate Resilience

Chongwe and Rufunsa Districts

The “Community Lead Action for Climate Resilience” project is being implemented by Keepers Zambia Foundation with funding from HIVOS. This project focuses on empowering local communities to develop and adopt sustainable solutions for energy and food security. This initiative aims to reduce the heavy reliance on wood fuel by promoting low-wood uptake cooking technologies (Traditional Cook Stove), which not only helps preserve forests but also mitigates the adverse effects of climate change. Additionally, the project emphasizes on food security by supporting the use of indigenous seeds for farming, enhancing resilience against climate shocks. It operates under the broader “Voices for Just Climate Action” (VCA) program, a collaborative effort designed to amplify the voices of underrepresented groups, including women, youth, indigenous peoples, and urban poor, in the climate action discourse.

Under the VCA project, Keepers Zambia Foundation specifically targets communities in Rufunsa and Chongwe. By building the capacity of 50 Community Climate Facilitators, the project seeks to enhance message uptake and facilitate advocacy efforts among 2,000 women and youth. These facilitators play an important role in disseminating information and mobilizing community actions, empowering participants to voice their concerns and advocate for climate justice. By fostering community-driven solutions and increasing awareness, the project not only addresses environmental challenges but also promotes social equity, ensuring that the needs and perspectives of marginalized groups are central to effective climate action.
