About This Project

The Community Led Action for Climate Resilience (CLAR) project is implemented by Keepers Zambia Foundation with funding from HIVOS under the broader Voices for Just Climate Action (VCA) programme. The project focuses on empowering local communities to develop and adopt sustainable solutions that address both energy and food security challenges. Many communities rely heavily on wood fuel for cooking, contributing to deforestation and environmental degradation. In response, the project promotes low-wood uptake cooking technologies, such as traditional improved cookstoves, which help reduce pressure on forest resources while mitigating the adverse effects of climate change. At the same time, the project strengthens food security by supporting the use of indigenous seeds, enhancing resilience to climate shocks and improving household sustainability. Through these interventions, the project contributes to environmental conservation, improved livelihoods, and stronger community resilience.

Key Activities

Sustainable Energy Solutions

The project promotes the adoption of low-wood uptake cooking technologies, including traditional improved cookstoves.

These solutions reduce household dependence on firewood, improve energy efficiency, and contribute to environmental conservation.

Food Security and Climate-Resilient Agriculture

The project supports the use of indigenous seeds and sustainable farming practices.

These approaches help communities adapt to climate variability, improve agricultural productivity, and strengthen household food security.

Community Capacity Building and Advocacy

A key component of the project is the training of Community Climate Facilitators.

A total of 50 facilitators are being equipped with the knowledge and skills to promote climate awareness, support community mobilisation, and lead advocacy efforts.

These facilitators play an important role in disseminating information and encouraging community participation in climate action.

Inclusion and Participation

The project places strong emphasis on inclusion by targeting women and youth.

Through engagement and advocacy platforms, the project empowers approximately 2,000 women and youth to voice their concerns, participate in decision-making, and advocate for climate justice.
