About This Project

The Kaoma Agriculture Recovery Support Project (KDARSP) was implemented in Kaoma District of Western Province, including Mayukwayukwa Refugee Settlement. The project focused on restoring agricultural livelihoods and improving food security among vulnerable smallholder farming households affected by limited access to inputs, low productivity, and climate-related challenges. Many households in the area depended on subsistence farming but faced declining yields due to poor farming practices, lack of irrigation, and vulnerability to drought and erratic rainfall. The project was designed to support recovery while strengthening long-term agricultural resilience.

Partners and Support

The project was funded by the Danish Embassy (DANIDA) and implemented by Keepers Zambia Foundation in partnership with Oxfam GB and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MACO).

Key Activities

Agricultural Inputs and Training

The project supported smallholder farmers with improved seeds and agricultural inputs, alongside training in conservation farming techniques to improve productivity and resilience to climate variability.

Irrigation and Production Support

Small-scale irrigation systems were introduced to enable dry-season farming and reduce reliance on rainfall, allowing farmers to sustain production throughout the year.

Farmer Group Strengthening

Farmer groups and cooperatives were established and strengthened to improve coordination, knowledge sharing, and access to markets and services.

Post-Harvest Management

Communities were trained in food processing, storage, and preservation techniques to reduce post-harvest losses and improve household food availability.

Capacity Building

Agricultural extension officers and community lead farmers were trained to provide ongoing support, ensuring sustainability beyond the project period.
