About This Project

The Biogas Technology Project is implemented by a consortium including People in Need (PIN), Keepers Zambia Foundation, and the Czech University of Life Sciences (CZU). The project aims to enhance climate resilience and improve food and nutrition security for smallholder farmers and institutions in Western Province, Zambia. By leveraging biogas technology, the project provides a sustainable solution for energy and waste management while addressing the impacts of climate change. Through this initiative, participating households gain access to renewable energy, reducing reliance on traditional biomass fuels and improving overall quality of life.

Key Activities

Biogas Technology Adoption

The project supports the installation and use of biogas systems among 130 smallholder farmers and three institutions.

These systems convert organic waste into clean energy for cooking and other household needs.

Market Development and Awareness

The project promotes the development of a local market for biogas technology by raising awareness of its socio-economic and environmental benefits.

This includes community engagement and knowledge sharing to increase demand and adoption.

Capacity Building

The project strengthens the capacity of key market actors, including technicians, service providers, and community members.

This ensures effective implementation, maintenance, and long-term sustainability of biogas systems.

Access to Finance and Knowledge

The project improves access to financing options and builds knowledge on how to utilize biogas outputs.

This includes the use of by-products such as bio-slurry to support agricultural and aquaculture production, enhancing productivity and food security.
